ICANN Approves .xxx Domain

.XXX Domains Approved by ICANN

The adult industry has finally found their exclusive territory on World Wide Web, in the form of .xxx.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)- the organisation which is responsible for the regulation of the most high profile domains such as .com, .org and .net, announced today that it is going to create a .xxx domain. The porn-exclusive domain is expected to bring a sense of security and predictability to the internet surfing world. The decision was taken at a San Francisco-held meeting earlier this week.

Internet scammers often use pornographic sites to lure internet surfers into their tricks and the introduction of .xxx domain would tone down this problem to a certain extent.

Those who wish to register a .xxx domain, would have to pass a screening process run by the International Foundation for Online Responsibility. This documented procedure will deter those who intend to scam people or put illegal material on their websites. Another positive would be that internet surfers, who want pornographic websites to be blocked from their browsing session, will have better control than before.

However, this doesn’t mean that established .com porn websites would want to jump territory and neither can they be forcefully made to switch domains, which means that the introduction of .xxx would probably not be too effective in the long run.
