Digital Content Sales Increasing
Digital content is the media of the internet. Ever since the early days of the web, people have attempted to create a mass media format that allows users to get their content through online venues. In the early days this was not accepted as a promising format but the in the past year digital content has become a widespread leader in the way that users view movies, listen to music and read their books.
A recent poll by Pew Research center shows that 65% of all internet users have purchased digital content in the past year. The last poll of this type showed a figure of just 23%. It is clear to see that digital content is starting to take hold with the masses of internet users around the world.
Topping the digital content is still music. More people are turning to the net to buy their music than ever before. This is based on the fact that it is much cheaper and easier to find the music that a person wants through the internet companies. However, piracy is still a problem for the music world despite the recent crackdown by the RIAA and the court systems.
eBooks have started to take hold recently as the popularity of the eReader devices increases. Amazon reported that their eReader, the Kindle, is the best selling product of all time. With that comes a dramatic upswing in the number of eBooks that are being sold through the many online venues.
